The 81st North-South All-Star Classic brought together some of the best high school talent in Ohio, and Cardinal Mooney was represented proudly by four seniors: Dewey Heard, KeJuan Dean, Ike Lake, and Kingston Powell. Playing one last time before graduation, these athletes showed the same hard work and teamwork that described their Mooney careers.
I was able to interview Dewey Heard and KeJuan Dean. Dewey Heard said “ he really enjoyed playing in the game”. He described the process leading up to the game, going to about four practices and meeting and getting to know other players from schools across Ohio. Something that stood out to him was him being able to play with athletes he only heard about before. He really enjoyed playing with Arvell Nelson from Glenville High School located in Cleveland, Ohio, saying it was “ a great experience to see how guys from different teams play the game.”
KeJuan Dean resonated with that experience and excitement saying, “ he loved the experience” and felt good with how he performed. Dean played extremely well, having leadership and energy on the field. He said the game made him remember why loves football, the friendship, the competition, and the opportunity to represent Mooney one final time.
Alongside Dean and Heard, Ike Lake and Kingston Powell also suited up. All four seniors played with heart and class, showing that our school’s football tradition runs deep. The game wasn’t just about highlights, it was about celebrating years of dedication. As the seniors get ready to finish their high school chapter in life, this All-Star Classic game served as a finale, an amazing reminder of how much they’ve grown as a family and how far they’ve come.
